Story

“We wanted to create a place where busy people could just stop and breathe”

In 2018 Mel and Nick McCosker of Flag Studio purchased a 30 year old home in stunning Shoal Bay and spent the next 12 months converting it into the holiday home of their dreams. After spending more than half a decade in Sydney working as professional designers (Mel in interiors and Nick in Branding) they decided to aim their skills at a new kind of project.

“The whole conception of The Still was centred around the desire to stop and enjoy life. To spend time with friends, family, and loved ones. To slow down, to re-calibrate and re-align.

To design a home that reflected these ideas, influences were taken from homes in parts of the world that we had visited and places where we had experienced an emphasis on relationships, community and prioritising joy in life. We pulled a lot of influence from places like rural Italy, Latin America and the Caribbean. This is embedded in every element of this home, from the layout and flow of the space, the soft curves of the arches, the hand made tiles to the dreamy white blocks that are so numerous throughout the living environment.

Our hope is that this home really does help you to take a break from the bustle of life and just be still.”
